A simple nut-free chocolate spread you can make at home!

Chocolate spread is a family favourite for a reason—who doesn’t love a sweet treat!  And the best part is you don’t need a long list of ingredients to make something delicious, and healthy! This Rock it Fuel Chocolate Spread uses just two ingredients and takes only a few minutes to prepare.

With Rock it Fuel and coconut oil, you can create a smooth, chocolatey spread that is delicious on toast, fruit or pancakes. It is a simple, nut-free alternative to traditional chocolate spreads, and it has a delicious second use too: when it is warm and runny, it becomes a delicious chocolate drizzle for ice cream.

Ingredients

  • 30 g coconut oil

  • 30 g Rock it Fuel

  • pinch of sea salt (optional)

  • teaspoon of avocado or macadamia oil (optional)

This quantity makes enough to spread over approximately two slices of bread, but it's so easy to scale up if you would like to make a larger batch. In fact I recommend you go all in and make up a jar of it - it never lasts long enough in our house otherwise!

Method

Melt 30 g of coconut oil in a small saucepan over low heat.

Remove the saucepan from the heat and allow the coconut oil to cool slightly. Add 30 g of Rock it Fuel and stir until the mixture is smooth and fully combined.

At this stage, the chocolate mixture will be very runny. This is the perfect consistency for pouring over ice cream—hello, healthy ice magic!

As the mixture cools to room temperature, it will firm up and become spreadable. Once it has reached your preferred consistency, spread it over bread, toast or your favourite snack.

How to enjoy it

For a quick and easy snack, spread it over two slices of bread or toast, or rice cakes.

When the mixture is still warm and runny, pour it over ice cream or frozen banana for a delicious crisp chocolate topping. You can even add fresh berries, sliced banana, coconut or a sprinkle of crushed seeds or granola for extra texture.  Or the favourite in our family - drizzle over pancakes (or waffles or crumpets).

Make a bigger batch

This recipe makes enough for approximately two slices of bread, but it is super easy to scale up. Simply use equal quantities of coconut oil and Rock it Fuel. For example, use 1/2 cup of coconut oil with 1/2 cup of Rock it Fuel for a jar of chocolate spread.

Store in a clean, airtight container. Because coconut oil firms as it cools, the spread may become fairly solid when stored (even at room temperature) so stir before using if needed in order to soften.

Recipe notes

If you live in a cooler climate, it’s worth adding a teaspoon of macadamia oil, or other mild-flavoured oil to keep the spread soft at room temperature.

I also like to add a pinch of sea salt to enhance the flavour.

If you’re ok with nuts, simply stir 30g of Rock it Fuel through 30g of nut butter instead of coconut oil - try peanut, almond or cashew - and you have a delicious choc nut spread.  If it’s a little dry, simply add enough oil to make it a more spreadable consistency.

We’d love to hear how you enjoy this recipe and what other creative ways you’re enjoying Rock it Fuel!
